ABOUT ME

R. CHRISTOPHER STOKES - earned his MFA in Lighting Design from the California Institute of the Arts under Tony Award Winner Don Holder.  He recieved a BA in Theatre and Philsophy from Bucknell University and graduated cum laude.  Some of Chris' favorite designs inclue The Sonneteer in Hollywood written by Nick Salamone and directed by Jon Lawrence Rivera and Mamet's Speed-The-Plow produced by The Actors Studio.  He also designed Judgment at Nuremberg starring Drake Hogestyn, Katharine Ross, and Ian Patrick Williams.  Other designs include: The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas at College of the Canyons, Meditations: Eva Hesse at Highways in Santa Monica, the world premiere of Michael John Garcés The Web of and the west coast premiere of Christopher Durang's Why Torture is Wrong, And The People Who Love Them.  Chris was also the lighting designer on blu written by Virginia Grise which was awarded the 2010 Yale Drama Award in Playwrighting.  He is also the lead designer for FlashTheaterLA.


 


As an assistant, Chris worked on Spiderman: Turn off the Dark, the revival of Promises, Promises on Broadway, the Off-Broadway musical Happiness at Lincoln Center and the Lion King tour.  Chris also worked on the theatrical lighting team for Season 1 & 2 of Smash on NBC.
